New building of the nursing home
ForTech Solutions has started another interesting and challenging project in Mission Hills – a new 20.000 sq. feet building is being added to a nursing home.
The aim of the project is to integrate technology into the new building, including IP surveillance cameras, cable TVs for each room, door intercom, network, phones and paging system, as well as wandering system for the whole building.
The most challenging part was poor design specification which was done by owner’s consultant with only IP background.
A lot of IP companies have very strong IP background but when it comes to Audio/Video their knowledge is very weak. Our engineer spent a lot time identifying issues with the design – going through all communication channels back and forth. Getting the correct information was time and energy consuming.
Second challenging part was to meet all OSHPD and fire code requirements. California has the most strict fire code law of all US states.
So, how did the team overcome the challenges?
“What helps us is having a great team of employees who can think on their feet and communicate with the right channels to resolve issues. And, of course, having no failure attitude is the most important. We always know that we will solve the issue and go on”, – says Joe Alabashyan, System Designer and Engineer at ForTech Solutions.
As the building is going to serve as a nursing home, it should be maximum secure. All the hallways and rooms should be fire-rated, some walls should be fire and smoke rated etc. (there’s a 12-page document listing all the safety requirements for nursing homes (http://goo.gl/YXJnDJ).
All the parts and cables, being used during the project, should pass a specific rating and meet the thorough safety standards.

Next stage is Finishing and Termination, after which comes the final Commissioning and Testing Stage. The project is now in the 1st – Rough-in stage, where all the cables and wires are being done.
